Highlights of Vintage Birds Emerald Coast Rally
EMERALD COAST CAMPGROUND
PANAMA CITY, FLORIDA
By Sherry Miller
Rally hosts Mark and Kathy Ragsdale took us to Northwest Florida's Finest Resort located in Panama City Beach. The campground brochure made the claim it was the finest, but I am inclined to agree. To make things even better, the weather was fantastic and the Ragsdale's provided us all with a multitude of events to do and see while we were there starting the day of arrival.
Our first day in, we met at the clubhouse early evening to get together to eat, drink and get to know each other. As usual, when there is an hors d'oeuvres to share, the choices were numerous and extremely tasty. Our next day started leisurely, giving us all a chance to recuperate from the travel in. Lunchtime, we headed for Pineapple Willy's on the beach. The gulf was a beautiful shade of blue against white sand on the beach. We could see porpoises swimming from the deck where we were and beachgoers were relaxing out in the sun or in the water.
The rest of the day was on our own visiting the local attractions or staying on the beach.
Tuesday morning we started with coffee and donuts and the business meeting. The afternoon was ours to do as we wanted. Pizza was served for dinner at the clubhouse so we all had a chance to visit and compare our ventures to see where to go next. Wednesday was a free day but we started with a pancake and bacon breakfast and ended the day at Captain Anderson's for dinner. A part of the group took a boat tour to a nearby island for hiking and swimming.
Thursday we had a catered dinner at the clubhouse, BBQ style after a day on our own. Friday, several of us went to Seaside and Watercolor where there were a collection of various shops for us to explore after a coffee and donut morning snack.
On Saturday, the campgrounddoes a buffet breakfast for the campers, and we joined in. That evening, we enjoyed a pot luck feast. Mark and Kathy passed out door prizes to each of the couples as a final treat.
Sunday, we all started to pack up and leave. It was hard to leave because the event was too much fun in a too pretty environment. The Ragsdale's put a lot of time and effort into making this rally truly enjoyable. Our thanks to them for all that they did!
