Highlights of WATERLOO REMEMBERS RALLY

Waterloo, NY Rally 2016

By Jeffrey Williams, Philipsburg, PA

A great time we all had at the end of May Rally in Waterloo, NY, which is also the Birthplace

of Memorial Day. With 16 coaches and one 5th wheel, there was quite a mix of FMCA Members

from the Penn-Ny Mixers, the Finger Lakers and the Vintage Birds. Vintage Birds attendees

included Jim & Sherry Miller, Steve & Lilliana Pappas, Butch and Marty Charpentier and,

of course, Julia and I. What a fun filled 5 days which was a two-part Memorial Day event;

“Celebrate and Commemorate”. The first part, Celebrate, was more joyous and festive including

a parade, vendors, Horse and buggy tours of the town, a scenic train ride from Waterloo to Seneca

Falls, ending with a vintage car show. The second part, Commemorate, was more serious

and solemn with a second parade and ending with a spectacular fireworks display. This was all

supplemented at the campground with Happy Hour and heavy Hors d’oeuvres the first night

plus a visit from the assistant Mayor, who gave a very interesting talk about the history of Waterloo.

Another night we had a Propane Fire pit and enjoyed each others stories around the fire.

Our Hosts Jim and Sherry Miller did a great job with coffee and donuts each morning and a

great evening meal of burgers and hot sausage with all the fixin’s. The days events included

visits to Historic sites in town and some very close encounters with Historic figures such

as Theodore Roosevelt, Abe Lincoln. Harriet Tubman along with dozens of other well-dressed

actors. The most important thing I could say about this rally is, if you missed it you certainly

missed a fun-filled, exciting and educational 5 days in the great Town of Waterloo, NY. For
